What is the difference between OPGW and ADSS cables, and which equipment do I need for each?
2025-08-08OPGW (Optical Ground Wire) cables are installed as a ground wire on top of transmission towers, while ADSS (All-Dielectric Self-Supporting) cables are designed to be strung in parallel with existing live phase conductors. At Ningbo Changshi, we offer specialized equipment for both applications. For OPGW, our hydraulic puller-tensioners are ideal, as they can be used for both installing new OPGW and for reconductoring (swapping old ground wire with new OPGW). For ADSS, you will need all-dielectric stringing blocks and pullers with specific tension control to handle the cable's delicate, non-metallic structure.
