This is the first leg of electricity's journey from a power plant to an end user. The primary purpose of transmitting electricity at such high voltages (typically 110 kV to 765 kV) is to minimize energy loss due to resistance. Higher voltage allows for a lower current to be used for the same amount of power, which significantly reduces the energy wasted as heat. This makes long-distance transport economically and technically viable.
