How does the structure of OPGW enable its dual functionality?
2025-08-07The unique structure of an OPGW cable is what makes its dual function possible. It consists of two main components:
-
Outer Metallic Wires: These strands, made of aluminum or steel alloys, are a highly conductive and durable shield. They provide the necessary mechanical strength to withstand environmental factors like wind and ice, while also acting as the grounding path for lightning and fault currents.
-
Inner Optical Fibers: Encased within a protective, waterproof tube in the cable's core, these fibers transmit data as light pulses. Because the fibers are non-conductive, they are completely immune to electromagnetic interference from the high-voltage lines, ensuring stable and reliable communication over long distances.
We manufacture various types of OPGW structures to suit different requirements, including central loose tube and stranded loose tube designs, which our tension stringing equipment is expertly designed to handle.
